The 12th Annual General Meeting of the Governing Body of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) was held on January 5–6, 2026, in Hyderabad, chaired by Honourable Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh ji and supported by Honourable Joint Ministers Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel Ji, Shri George Kurian Ji. The meeting focused on accelerating the growth of the fisheries sector through technology, infrastructure development , and sustainable practices.
Key resolutions and highlights from the 12th GB Meeting include:
- Regional Strengthening: Transfer of 5 acres of land to NFDB for establishing the Northern Regional Centre at Village Sultanpur, Gurugram, Haryana, to boost aquaculture in Northern India.
- Targeted Infrastructure & Production: Focus on strengthening inland fisheries through modernization, capacity building of Fish Farmer Producer Organisations (FFPOs), and improving cold storage and post-harvest infrastructure.
- Investment in North India: Promotion of prawn farming in inland states such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
- Policy & Structural Reforms
- Initiating the process of making payments against central schemes in two instalments rather than four to improve fund flow.
- Revising unit costs for construction projects in Himalayan states under the new central scheme.
Prioritizing proposals for brood banks and hatcheries.
- Sustainability & Export Focus: Emphasizing EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) and high-seas guidelines, along with creating export-oriented infrastructure to boost export earnings.
Operational Focus: Enhancing fish production through high-density aquaculture, reservoir fisheries, cage culture, and seaweed cultivation.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and discussed the implementation roadmap for 2026.
